Michael Borero

Michael Alexander Borero, 58, of Keaau died June 25, 2016, at Stanford Hospital in California. Born Nov. 9, 1957, in San Francisco, he was retired from Safeway, currently employed at Keaau Elementary School as a kitchen assistant and custodian, and member of The Way The Truth The Life Fellowship.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10:45 a.m. service. Burial follows at Alae Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Donnie Borero of Keaau; sons, Cole Stremski-Borero of Keaau, Rocky (Keani Isabel) Takei of Honomu, Donovan Takei-Stremski of Aiea, Oahu; sister, Barbara Borero of Arizona; a grandchild, an uncle, aunts, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John Dean

John Harrison Dean, 83, of Kalopa Mauka died July 4, 2016 at home. Born June 13, 1933, in Boston, he was a Marine Corps veteran, owned yacht charter companies in California and Washington, farmed macadamia nuts in Honomolino and ran a family sheep farm in Kalopa Mauka.

He is survived by wife, Jan Dean of Kalopa Mauka; son, Chip Dean of Shingle Springs, Calif.; daughters, Bryson (Brian) Gauthier-Dean of Somerset, Mass.; Sally (Albert) Dean Mello of Marshfield, Mass.; sister Bryson Dean of Iowa City, Iowa; stepsons, Sunny (SherrieAnn) Walker of Hilo, Nino (Karen) Walker of San Francisco; five granddaughters.

Moses Regidor

Moses “Moke” Regidor, 80, of Kailua-Kona died June 24, 2016, at his residence. Born Dec. 25, 1935, in Paauilo, he was a retired janitorial worker at the Santa Anita Racetrack, worked at Hamakua Sugar Co. was a welder for Matson Co., worked in the hospitality business and assisted in a motel operation and owned a landscaping business.

No services will be held.

He is survived by wife, Reba Regidor of Kailua-Kona; son, Ryan Oshiro of California; stepsons, Jimmy (Diana) Bankston, Roger (Donna) Bankston, all of Washington, Adrian (Dawn) Bankston, Flint (Ivy) Regidor, all of Colorado; stepdaughters, Shawn (Joe) Hill of Colorado, LeNette (Jason) Dahl of California; brother, Earl (Amy) Regidor of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Mary Lee of Oahu, and Dorothy (Scott) Fujimoto of Honokaa; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathryn Pleasance

Kathryn Christiana Pleasance, 69, of Kailua-Kona died June 27, 2016, at her residence. Born March 21, 1947, in Seattle, she was a retired publications manager and a military translator during the Vietnam War. She was a sheep farmer, a member of the Kona Orchid Society and a U.S. Army veteran.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by husband, Randall Pleasance of Couperville, Wash.

Arlene Lindamood

Arlene Bessie Lindamood, 92, of Hilo died June 17, 2016. She was born May 26, 1924, in Wisconsin.

She is survived by sons, Alan (Melba) Halgren, Donald (Patricia) Lindamood, both of Vancouver, Wash., David (Marilyn) Lindamood of Oahu; daughters, Dianne (Roderick) Rogers of Pahoa, Donna (Thomas) Hackett of Ocean View; sister, Sally Miller of Minnesota; 20 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lynn Kawakami

Lynn “Linko” Kiyoe Kawakami, 70, of Hilo died June 28, 2016, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Sept. 3, 1945, in Hilo, she was a retired volunteer coordinator at the Honokaa hospital.

Private services held. No flowers. No monetary offerings.

She is survived by daughters, Debra (Stanley) Kaina Jr., Shari Lynn (Bradley) Rezentes, Tammy Kagawa, all of Hilo; son, Bentley (Jodi) Kawakami of Hilo; brother, Thomas Okamura of Honolulu; sister, Karen (Roy) Tanoue of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, and nieces.

Ethel Kaneshiro

Ethel Yaeko Kaneshiro, 96, of Waimea died May 30, 2016, at home. Born July 16, 1919, in Waimea, she was a homemaker and member of Kamuela Hongwanji Mission and Buddhist Women’s Association.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Melvin Kaneshiro and Arnold (Linda) Kaneshiro of Waimea; daughters, Karen Santos of Hilo, Sharyn (Tim) Rodriguera of Roseville, Calif.; brother, Tad (Eiko) Okura of Walnut Creek, Calif.; sisters, Toshiko (Harry) Tanabe and Setsuko (Minoru) Ota of Honolulu, Jeanette Horii of Gardena, Calif., Elaine Honma of Waimea; caregiver, Pamela Phillips of Waimea; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy Irene Gross, 60, of Hilo died June 18, 2016, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Corona, Calif., she was a homemaker and an ordained minister.

She is survived by husband, Philip Gross of Hilo; daughters, Tara (Jason) Rudis of Washington, Jessica (Deano) Zappia, Erica Isabel, both of Las Vegas, Sonja (Emmanuel) Soria of Kona, Alanna (Daniel) Vierra of Keaau, brothers, Paul Phillips of California, Allen (Lorena) Okano of Las Vegas; hanai sister, Kimi King of Kurtistown; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one aunt, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Akiko Ito, 93, of Keaau died July 2, 2016, at her residence. Born Aug. 4, 1922, in Mountain View, she retired as a field worker for Keaau Macadamia Nut Farm.

She is survived by sons, Clifford Ito of Oahu, Max (Keitha) Ito of Florida, Norman Ito of Keaau, Andrew (Imelda) Ito of Paradise Park; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
